Cory was born and raised in Pueblo, CO. He attended Pueblo South High School where he was a two-time Colorado All-Star, batting .587 and was named as the South- Central League Defensive Player of the Year his Senior year. He was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 34th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft. Cory signed to play/catch for the University of New Mexico, where he was named Freshman All-America by both Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and the NCWBA, as well as receiving Mountain West Co-Freshman of the Year honor. Cory then transferred to McLennan Community College in Texas, where he was named First-Team North Texas Junior College All-Athletic Conference, received All-Tournament honors and the Big Stick Award for the San Jac Tournament of Champions. He went on to play in the prestigious Cape Cod League and was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 37th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft. Cory then committed to play for the University of Arizona his Junior season where he caught, played first base and was a designated hitter. He attended Lewis Clark State College his Senior year, where he was named First-Team All NAIA-West, as well as voted onto the 2018 Avista NAIA World Series All-Tournament team.
